How to Care for Solid Wood & Antique Oil Finishes
Solid oak and reclaimed timber are natural materials that age beautifully, but a little regular care goes a long way in preserving their warmth and richness. Whether you have just added one of our handcrafted wooden lamps to your home or simply want to refresh your solid timber decor, here is a simple guide to keeping your wood looking its absolute best.

1. Daily Cleaning: Less is More
When it comes to dusting oiled wood, keep it simple. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, silicone sprays, or abrasive wipes, as these can break down the natural wax and oil protection over time.
Instead, simply wipe the surface with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. If needed, use a slightly damp cloth for light marks, then dry the area immediately with a clean towel.
2. Mind the Placement
Wood is a living material that responds to its environment. To prevent warping, cracking, or premature fading:
- Keep your wooden lamps and decor away from direct heat sources like radiators or wood burners.
- Avoid positioning them in places with direct, intense sunlight for long periods.
- Keep solid timber in well-ventilated rooms with stable humidity.

3. Refreshing the Finish
Over time, daily handling and dry ambient air can make the timber look slightly dry. Re-applying a small amount of Danish oil or natural beeswax once or twice a year brings back the deep grain contrast and protective seal.
Apply a tiny amount with a lint-free cotton cloth, rub gently along the direction of the grain, let it sit for a few minutes, and buff off any excess.
Proper care guarantees that your handcrafted piece will not only last for decades, but will grow richer in character with every passing year.
